Focal Engineering was established in 2015 and has provided energy services to hundreds of projects. As independent energy modellers, we take a whole building perspective to energy analysis, balancing the importance of the building envelope, mechanical and other building systems.

We believe that good energy analysis can drive better building design, construction and operation, resulting in energy efficiency, cost savings and improved comfort and safety for occupants.

Our experienced team has completed hundreds of energy models and is recognized as an industry leader.

We are frequently asked to provide educational presentations, participate on codes and standards committees, and review other modellers’ work. See our Focal in the News page for more info.

Quality

Our team has developed in-house processes that included robust quality assurance. We regularly review and update our processes and documents for continuous improvement.

In recognition of our commitment to quality, Focal was proud to be certified as a leader in quality management under Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s OQM Program from 2019 to 2021.

Sustainability

Since its start in 2015, Focal has had net zero operations. On an annual basis, we minimize our GHG footprint, calculate remaining emissions and purchase Gold Standard carbon offsets. Our calculations to 2020 have been verified by an independent 3rd party.

For this and other actions, we won the EcoStar 2019 Greenest Office Award.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

As part of our commitment to diversity and gender inclusion, Focal has far surpassed the national average for gender equality in the engineering industry. Focal has supported gender equality as a founding donor to a UVic student scholarship, creating more opportunity for women to pursue an education in Engineering.
